Sport in Spandau: Bruno-Gehrke-Halle remains closed until the end of the year

The Bruno Gehrke Hall in the Spandau district can continue to be used by clubs and schools. The Spandau district office has reportedly negotiated an extension of the lease until December 31, 2025. After intensive discussions with the Federal Agency for Real Estate (BImA) and the approval of the main committee, the future of the hall, which is in need of renovation, is secured for the time being, it was said. The previous lease for the Bruno Gehrke Hall expired at the end of 2024.
"I am very happy and relieved that we have succeeded in bringing our efforts to extend the lease of the Bruno Gehrke Hall to a positive result," said Carola Brückner (SPD), District Councillor for Education, Culture, Sports and Facility Management. In the coming weeks, the district will continue negotiations with the BImA "in order to negotiate the longest possible contract for the period from 2026," said Brückner.
According to the district office, the hall has been a central part of Spandau's sporting infrastructure since 1951. It is used by various clubs and also offers space for integrative exercise programs, for example for Muslim women. In the field of boxing in particular, the hall has developed into an indispensable training and competition venue thanks to the permanent boxing ring in the basement. The Bruno Gehrke Hall is also used by various schools in the district that do not have their own sports halls or need alternatives because of work on their halls.
