Berlin – Former Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and former Federal Presidents Joachim Gauck and Christian Wulff will not participate in the Grand Tattoo for outgoing Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) on May 5. "Former Chancellor Dr. Merkel will not participate in the tattoo in honor of Chancellor Scholz," a spokeswoman for Merkel told the "Tagesspiegel" newspaper upon request. Merkel served as Chancellor from 2005 to 2021 and is Scholz's predecessor in office. Gauck and Wulff will also not participate in the Grand Tattoo, the offices of the two former Federal Presidents told the "Tagesspiegel" upon request.
