Health and Education: How Staff Shortages Harm Germans

As far as the labor market is concerned, the struggle for personnel has recently been less of a focus. In August, more than three million people were looking for a job, the highest number in 15 years . Former flagship industries such as the automotive and chemical industries are cutting jobs. At the same time, however, there are sectors experiencing a shortage of employees. Sometimes even to an extreme degree: 48 percent of service workers report a severe staff shortage in their sector, according to a survey by the Verdi trade union, which was obtained by the Süddeutsche Zeitung .
