Nordic Film Days Lübeck: NDR Film Prize for "Det Andet Offer" (Second Victims) by Zinnini Elkington

Nordic Film Days Lübeck: NDR Film Prize for "Det Andet Offer" (Second Victims) by Zinnini Elkington
Hamburg (ots) – “Det Andet Offer” (Second Victims) by director and writer Zinnini Elkington has been awarded the NDR Film Prize, worth €12,500, at the 67th Nordic Film Days in Lübeck. The award was presented on Saturday, November 8, at the Theater Lübeck. It recognizes a “feature film of exceptional artistic quality” and has been awarded since 1990. The NDR Film Prize jury's statement: “With precise direction and immense suspense, the film transforms an institutional tragedy into a profoundly human story. This captivating debut, with its perfect rhythm and outstanding performances, guides us through guilt, grief, and forgiveness – and makes us eager for more of the director's work in the future.” “Second Victims” tells the story of the self-assured neurologist Alexandra. She diagnoses an elderly woman with a stroke and routinely initiates life-saving measures. Despite warning signs, she sends 18-year-old Oliver home with a severe headache. Shortly afterward, the boy suffers severe epileptic seizures, and ultimately, he is declared brain dead. Alexandra faces bitter accusations from the parents and reproaches from her colleagues, desperately grappling with the question of her own guilt. All of this is vividly portrayed against the backdrop of a healthcare system overburdened by austerity measures and understaffing.

The screenplay was written by Zinnini Elkington, and the film was produced by Johannes Rothaus Nørregaard. The cast includes Özlem Saglanmak (as Alex), Trine Dyrholm (as Camilla), Mathilde Arcel (as Emile), and Olaf Johannessen (as Esben).

This year's jury for the NDR Film Prize included Christian Granderath (NDR Head of Film, Family and Series), Sylvia Ingemarsdotter (Editor), Jakob Kijas (Founder of eksystent Film Distribution), Josef Kullengård (Head of Industry at the Gothenburg Film Festival), and Malika Rabahallah (Director of the Hamburg Film Festival). A photo of the winners will be available for download at www.nordische-filmtage.de following the awards ceremony on November 8th, starting at approximately 11:00 PM. At this year's Nordic Film Days Lübeck, 191 films were screened in 226 public screenings. The juries awarded a total of eleven film prizes worth €67,500. In addition, there is a non-monetary honorary award for a significant artist from the Nordic countries, which this year went to the Norwegian director, screenwriter, and producer Bent Hamer.
