Cardiology and general practice in dialogueThe treatment of chronic coronary syndrome (CCS) is changing. Obstruction of the major coronary arteries is not always the cause of the symptoms. Microvascular disorders can also frequently cause CCS. The 2024 update of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) guidelines has brought the previously neglected non-obstructive coronary vascular diseases ANOCA (angina with non-obstructive coronary arteries) and INOCA (ischemia with non-obstructive coronary arteries) into focus. Primary care physicians play a crucial role in the early detection of this patient group and the appropriate initiation of symptomatic treatment.
