The youth of today... Typical boomers! In the BRIGITTE column Generational Question, 'young' and 'old' are allowed to ask questions freely in order to better understand the peculiarities of the other generation.
What's the deal with the constant WhatsApp stories from people over 40? Where does the fear of making phone calls come from among younger people? And why is the whole world thanking Beyoncé #thankyoubeyonce? The editors of BRIGITTE no longer want to talk about each other, but with each other. So from now on they'll just ask each other...
Petra, 62 : While dating formats have been springing up all over the place for quite some time, the new over-60s dating show on RTL, the "Golden Bachelor", was dropped from the linear TV schedule after just one season. The older target group seems to be less interested in trash or dating formats than the younger audience. I agree with that. I understand the entertainment factor, but the spark didn't jump over to me. Which brings me to the question: What is it that fascinates you younger people so much about trash, dating and reality TV?
Alicia, 26 : Trash, dating and reality TV are a welcome escape from everyday life for many young people. I include myself in that completely. The formats show an exaggerated, sometimes chaotic world that allows us to immerse ourselves in another reality for a while. The perfect way to pass the time after a stressful day at work or university. But you shouldn't necessarily copy anything here. Unless you want to learn how to formulate bad pick-up lines. The conversations of the reality stars are often so banal that you wonder whether they even know what they're saying. But it's entertaining nonetheless.
And the best part? When I sit on the couch with friends and binge-watch these formats, the whole thing becomes a really cool hobby. Together we share the protagonists' excitement, discuss their decisions and maybe even plan how we would react in a similar situation. In any case, we are prepared for our own "reality moments" in real life.
