King Charles III (76) visited a family-run brewery on Monday - and helped himself to a beer tap. The monarch tapped himself a pint of the brewery's own beer "Gone for Burton" at the Tower Brewery in the English town of Burton-upon-Trent in the county of Staffordshire. Photos show Charles visibly amused as he pulled the tap. No wonder that the monarch then accepted the brewery owner's tongue-in-cheek invitation to try a sip.
King Charles drinks beer and liquor"I would be in the wrong place if I didn't," the King joked, according to the Independent , before raising his glass and toasting with a hearty "To your health." He then joked that he might share the rest of the beer with the press in attendance.
But it didn't stop at beer: Brewery owner John Mills suggested that the monarch try a sip of a special spirit that would form the basis for whisky. Charles, known to be a whisky lover, tried the mixture and seemed satisfied: "Interesting - yes, it's super strong," said the 76-year-old.
Before visiting the brewery, Charles also visited the factory of a construction machinery manufacturer in Staffordshire. During the visit, he looked at the factory's production line and observed how the wheels of the backhoe loaders are assembled. The monarch also got a hand in the work himself for a short time. The monarch then met with apprentices, long-standing employees and their families in the factory.
