Gaza War | Waiting for help

Jerusalem. According to Israeli media, the distribution of aid in the Gaza Strip is set to begin with a new mechanism. At the same time , many people were again killed in attacks. Meanwhile, the Israeli army called on residents of most towns in the southern Gaza Strip to leave.

According to the newly established Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), "direct" aid deliveries should begin later today. Israeli broadcaster Kan, citing officials, reported that the GHF's first distribution point would open in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday. Three more centers will gradually begin operations. These will distribute food packages to the population; more centers are planned.

According to the foundation, the controversial aid mechanism stipulates that a representative of each Palestinian family goes to a distribution center every five days to pick up an aid package. It initially remained unclear how many packages were actually distributed at the launch of the new system on Monday. Israeli media published photos of residents who allegedly received packages. However, according to initial reports, only an average of six out of ten residents of the Gaza Strip can be supplied initially.

The UN views the new mechanism critically , among other things because civilians could be caught in the crossfire on their way to distribution centers. Elderly, disabled children, sick, and injured people would not be able to reach the distribution centers at all, said UNICEF spokesperson James Elder. The current head of the GHF also has doubts – and announced his resignation on Sunday. Jake Woods reportedly considers it impossible to implement the plan developed under his leadership while simultaneously upholding "the humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence."

Meanwhile, the Israeli offensive continues, aimed at driving the Palestinian population into small security zones . According to military analysts , 43 percent of the Gaza Strip is already under army control . dpa/nd
