GdP: More presence and rights for the Federal Police at dangerous train stations

The German Police Union (GdP) supports the statements of Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) and Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) in the "Stadtbild" debate. At the same time, it calls for a greater presence and more rights for federal police officers at train stations.
Alexander Roßkopf, chairman of the German Police Federation (GdP) for the Federal Police, told the RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND): "Especially at the major train stations in the city centers, things are becoming increasingly dangerous, including for our colleagues. They are experiencing less and less respect and acceptance."

Roßkopf demanded the right to conduct suspicion-independent checks for the Federal Police. He told the RND: "For this reason, too, a fundamental power of control at train stations, always taking proportionality into account, is absolutely necessary. This should be taken into account in the amendment to the Federal Police Act. We as the police must remain absolutely capable of action to ensure security in our country."
Roßkopf recalled the demand by Bavaria's Minister-President Markus Söder (CSU) to increase the number of federal police officers at train stations. "In total, there is a shortage of 3,000 to 4,000 officers there," he told the RND. "More security at train stations also improves the cityscape."
