In 2024, in the second graduating class following the introduction of generalist nursing training, approximately 37,400 people will have successfully completed their training as nurses.

More new training contracts in nursing
The average age was 24. However, 19 percent of those beginning their nursing training were over the age of 30. Across all training years, 21 percent of nursing trainees were 30 years old or older. Nearly three-quarters of all nursing trainees at the end of the year (74 percent) were women, and just over a quarter (26 percent) were men. The practical part of training to become a qualified nurse can be completed in a hospital, an inpatient care facility, or an outpatient care facility. In 2024, nursing trainees with newly concluded training contracts completed their training in hospitals with a particularly high proportion of around 51 percent (30,300). This was followed by inpatient care facilities with 35 percent (21,000), and then outpatient care facilities with a share of around 11 percent (6,700). Regarding the type of provider, 44 percent, or 26,100, of the new nursing trainees began their vocational training with a non-profit provider, i.e., in institutions affiliated with a social, humanitarian, or religious organization. 29 percent (17,000) of the new trainees began with a private provider, and 25 percent (14,900) with a public provider of practical training.
