Swiss winter fairytale: This ice skating track stretches for kilometers through the forest.

Those who love ice skating often go to indoor ice rinks. A highlight is when small outdoor ice rinks are set up in some places during the winter – in some cities in Germany and other European countries, even as an additional attraction alongside the Christmas markets. But it gets even more exciting: If you're planning a winter trip to Switzerland , the "Eisweg Engadin" (Engadin Ice Trail) awaits you in the small village of Sur En near Sent in the canton of Graubünden .
Instead of a conventional ice track, this ice trail comprises a three-kilometer-long circular route made entirely of ice. It leads right through the forest, directly along the banks of the Inn River, and through a winter wonderland. Best of all: The ice trail opens before Christmas – on December 20, 2025.

The three-kilometer-long ice trail through the winter forest of Sur En is created anew each winter as soon as temperatures drop low enough. The on-site team maintains the trail regularly to ensure the ice remains perfectly smooth – therefore, there is a fee for using it.
The starting point is the Sur En campsite. Those without their own equipment can rent skates there – in sizes 28 to 48. Helmets are mandatory and included in the entrance fee. Those who are still a bit wobbly while gliding can rent a skating aid in the form of a seal or a chair with runners.
Dogs, strollers, and sleds are not allowed on the ice – the ice path is reserved exclusively for skaters. It is suitable for both beginners and experienced skaters. It's entirely up to you whether you prefer to glide along at a leisurely pace or speed across the surface.
The village of Sur En in the Lower Engadine is located in eastern Switzerland, not far from the borders with Austria and Italy . The tourist center of the Lower Engadine is Scuol, eight kilometers away. You can easily reach the village by Rhaetian Railway (from Landquart, among other places), and from there the PostBus (route 923) will take you directly to the Sent, Sur En Camping stop.
Those who prefer to travel by car should follow the Engadine Road (H27) to Crusch and then the signs towards Sur En. After the covered wooden bridge over the Inn River, you've arrived. Parking is available directly at the campsite.
According to the provider's website, adults pay 12 francs and children up to 15 years old pay 7 francs during the 2025/2026 winter season.
The rental fee for ice skates or skating aids is 5 Swiss francs each. You can pay in cash, by credit card, or via Twint (a Swiss payment app).
Reservations are not possible, so you can embark on this winter adventure spontaneously.
