Aemet warns of what will happen in Spain from Friday to Saturday: a bad weather and storms with very heavy downpours in these areas.

A new low (an isolated low-level depression) will hit the Iberian Peninsula starting Friday, July 11, according to a statement from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). This atmospheric phenomenon, which will enter the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, will cause a change in the weather with intense storms , possible hail, and a drop in temperatures, especially in the north and east of the country.

On Friday, starting at noon , storm clusters are expected to begin forming around the Cantabrian Mountains and the Iberian Range. These storms will move north and northeast throughout the day, with particular impact on regions such as the eastern Cantabrian Sea, Navarre, and Aragon . In these areas, downpours could exceed 30 mm in just one hour, accompanied by large hail and strong wind gusts.

At the same time, other northern areas such as Castile and León, La Rioja, and the northern half of Catalonia could also be affected, although with less intensity. Storms will regenerate slowly, which could result in persistent rainfall and significant accumulations in short periods of time.

On Saturday, July 12 , the Dana will continue its path eastward across the Iberian Peninsula, shifting the brunt of the instability to the northeast. During the first half of the day, Aragon (particularly the northern half) and Catalonia will be the most affected , with strong to very strong thunderstorms and showers. Navarre, La Rioja, and the northern Valencian Community could also experience adverse events during the morning, although more occasionally.

The influence of this cold air mass, characteristic of the Dana core, will also lower temperatures . On Friday, this drop will be especially noticeable in the western half of the country, while on Saturday, the thermometer will drop in the eastern half. Only the Mediterranean coasts will be spared, where the heat will continue to be as intense as it has been.

A general improvement is expected on Sunday . If forecasts hold, the storm will leave the Peninsula and an Atlantic ridge will take over, restoring stability and allowing the skies to gradually clear across much of the country.
