Alleged animal shelter dismantled with deformed dogs and decomposing carcasses

The Almería Police Department announced this Saturday that those responsible for a supposed animal shelter on a farm in the municipality are being investigated for abandoning several dogs in deplorable conditions . The animals were left unattended, without access to food or drinking water , and surrounded by filth , plastic, and garbage.

Operation Sanctumer, launched late last year, resulted in the discovery of nineteen dogs at the scene. Two of them had bite wounds and deformities , while three others had died, their bodies showing signs of having been partially consumed by the other dogs.

The Seprona (Nature Protection Service) verified that most of the dogs did not have an identification microchip , violating current regulations .

Among the rescued animals were highly sought-after breeds , some of them paired or pregnant. This fact has led officials to suspect that they could be captive-bred animals destined for sale .

During the investigation, it was determined that more than 200 people made donations to the shelter , which was operating without a license and was not registered as a zoo or animal protection association .

In total, the suspects reportedly raised nearly 8,000 euros in eight months, with no evidence that this money was used for animal welfare or facility maintenance .

Finally, the dogs were transferred to animal welfare associations and private collaborators in the province.
