Argentina swindled out of $15,000 by George Clooney lookalike

The incident took place in a remote corner of Patagonia, where the woman told a local media outlet how she fell victim to a scam by the man who, according to her, "looked like Clooney... but more from a distance than up close."
It all started when the woman, after watching a live stream on what she thought was the actor's official account, was contacted to join the official fan group for a $300 membership fee. Because, obviously, George Clooney needs to charge membership fees to have friends.
The gaucha really believed she had hooked up with George ClooneyEventually, the “actor” (or whoever she thought was the actor) began asking her for donations for a foundation he supposedly ran, reaching as much as $15,000, which is equivalent to about 300,000 Mexican pesos… or approximately 3 billion Argentine pesos, depending on the emotional state of the day.
"I sent the Apple Card, which I bought on Mercado Libre, and they told me it wouldn't work. So I had to buy more cards, and more cards, until they said it would," the woman explained, in such Argentine Spanish that it came with mate and alfajores.

After giving details about how she was duped, the woman explained that even the gaucho Clooney promised to get her a job on one of his projects, which made her trust him completely. Because if life has taught us anything, it's that millionaire Hollywood actors usually hire people through inboxes.
It's worth noting that the fraudster, who fancied himself a flirt, used emotional persuasion, and advanced digital tools, including fake images and AI-generated voices, to maintain the illusion. The victim, meanwhile, will now have to resign herself to finding a partner among the local Clooneys: a mustachioed Carlos who arrived by boat and says "bye" every three sentences.
