Thursday afternoon turned tragic at the San Agustín neighborhood market in the State of Mexico when a dispute between vendors escalated into deadly violence. The confrontation occurred shortly after 3 p.m. in one of the busiest areas of the market, causing alarm among vendors and customers.
According to local police reports, the conflict erupted while some merchants were drinking alcoholic beverages. What began as an exchange of words and shoving soon escalated into a more serious physical confrontation. Tensions escalated until one of the participants pulled out a firearm and fired a shot, killing two men, approximately 20 and 35 years old.
After the shooting, the attacker was surrounded by the crowd at the market. In addition, a 50-year-old man was seriously wounded by two gunshot wounds to the chest and was taken to the Mariano Matamoros Municipal Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
The State of Mexico Attorney General's Office has opened a case and is now investigating the events, seeking to clarify responsibility and determine the motives for the fight. Authorities are seeking to identify all those involved and assess the possible involvement of third parties, in addition to strengthening surveillance at the market to prevent future incidents.

Market vendors now face a situation of tension and fear, affecting daily market activities. Many merchants have called for increased police presence and security strategies to ensure a safe working and shopping environment, preventing violence from disrupting the neighborhood's economic and social life.
