Migrants must wait several days to be transferred by INM

People from other countries who have been deported from the United States remain at the Jesús Torres Migrant Center for up to a week, waiting for the National Migration Institute in Mexico to bring them closer to the southern border, since it is known that they are no longer being returned to their places of origin.
The above was announced by the operational coordinator of the center, María Concepción Martínez Rodríguez, who said that, since the INM offices in the region do not have the capacity to accommodate many people, they must wait for the "green light" to send them to the stations in Monterrey, San Luis Potosí, and even as far as Mexico City, where trips to the south are scheduled.
He explained that, even contrary to what was expected, that migrants would arrive en masse and that in preparation for this, state and federal governments had set up shelters on the northern border to receive the thousands of Mexican citizens expected, this has not been the case and those who have been staying in the shelters run by civil associations are foreigners, but many already know where to go or what to do and those who do not wait to have contact with their families so that they can facilitate their return.
There are also those who decide to stay in Mexico to raise enough money to return, as they are not willing to expose themselves to everything that undertaking the journey to their countries by train entails.
In the case of the Jesús Torres Migrant Center, he mentioned that, last week, around 70 people arrived, of which there are still some who insist on achieving the “American dream.”
“What is happening is that they have to stay longer, but they are foreigners who, due to their situation, arrive very anxious, they are desperate, they no longer want to know anything about the northern border and are willing to return to their country.”
The interviewee mentioned that, since the change of government in the United States, of the people who arrive at the Migrant Center in Torreón, about 100 people have voluntarily requested their return, although probably in the shelters run by civil or religious associations on the northern border, the number is much higher.
