The eight children were killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting "a gathering of citizens outside a medical center in the city of Deir al-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip," he said.
A total of 12 people were killed at this point. There were also attacks in central and southern Palestinian territory.
Due to Israeli restrictions on media presence in Gaza and access difficulties, AFP cannot independently verify the death toll and the claims of the warring parties.
