One dead and one seriously injured after a car collided with a truck in Olite (Navarra).

A 72-year-old man died early Tuesday morning , and a 35-year-old man was seriously injured after a collision between a car and a truck on the AP-15 near Olite.

According to information provided by the Government of Navarre , the accident occurred at kilometer 40.4 of the Navarre Highway (AP-15). The car, traveling southbound and carrying the deceased , collided with a truck that had previously left the road on the left side of the road heading north, coming to a stop and invading the oncoming lane .

Emergency teams dispatched to the scene were unable to save the 72-year-old man , who died instantly. The body will be transferred to the Navarre Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy.

The SOS Navarra 112 Emergency Management Center received the accident notification at 1:10 a.m. Tuesday. Firefighters from the Tafalla fire station , the on-call medical team, an advanced life support ambulance, a basic life support ambulance, and Road and Citizen Safety patrols from the Foral Police station in Estella were dispatched to the scene.

The truck driver, a 35-year-old man, was taken to the University Hospital of Navarra in serious condition with multiple injuries. A 46-year-old woman who was traveling in the car was also taken to the University Clinic of Navarra with minor injuries.

The Traffic Accident Investigation Unit of the Tudela Regional Police Station is investigating the circumstances and outcome of the accident . As a result of the incident, the southbound section of the motorway remains closed to traffic . The Regional Police have established a bypass between kilometer markers 39 and 40.7, allowing traffic in both directions to continue northbound on the carriageway from 4:05 a.m.
