The Dolores Olmedo Museum rejects unfounded accusations

In a letter to federal and city cultural authorities , the Dolores Olmedo Museum, which it made public yesterday, rejected "accusations of opacity, fragmentation of the collection , or failure to comply with the wishes of Dolores Olmedo," the museum's founder.
WE RECOMMEND: Dolores Olmedo Museum to reopen in 2026
The museum and the trust responded to the letter signed by some 90 members of the cultural community , presented on July 4, in which they expressed their dissatisfaction with the closure of the museum, the fragmentation of the collection (which includes works by Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo and Angelina Beloff , among others) and the decision to move the collection to Aztlán Park.
The Dolores Olmedo Collection Trust is a private trust that holds assets protected by our legal system. However, since its establishment to date, it has fully and significantly fulfilled the purposes for which it was created.
They reiterate that the museum is closing for restoration and modernization. The trust's management has ensured the comprehensive conservation of the collection, the creation of top-level exhibitions, collaboration with academic and cultural institutions, and constant openness to the local, national, and international community," it explains.
Regarding the museum's temporary closure , "we reiterate that it is due to a necessary process of restoration and modernization of the facilities, as well as the updating of the conservation and security systems... And it is planned to reopen at the Noria headquarters in 2026."
Regarding the management and use of the collection , they believe that " any extension or collaboration with other cultural spaces is a tremendous opportunity to continue fulfilling the trust's objectives of expanding the dissemination of the heritage, without compromising the integrity of the ownership or safeguarding of the collections."
