The fire in the town of Valdecaballeros has destroyed 2,000 hectares and forced the evacuation of 440 people.

Spain is experiencing its most worrying weekend of the year so far in terms of fires . More than a dozen blazes have broken out across the peninsula, with the one affecting Valdecaballeros, Badajoz, being of particular concern.

Early Sunday morning, the Extremadura Regional Government estimated that more than 2,000 hectares had been devastated by a fire that broke out this Saturday in a pastureland and was aggravated by the wind. This fire forced the evacuation of a campsite with 140 occupants and the town of Cíjara, where 300 people were celebrating the patron saint's day festivities.
