Tizimín's tourism boom; encouraging outlook for the 2026 Three Kings' Fair

TIZIMÍN.— After concluding the month-and-a-half-long vacation period, the municipality reports a positive balance in terms of tourism and the economy.
This creates an encouraging outlook for the 2026 Three Kings' Fair.
Tourism and established business leaders agree that these results not only herald the traditional festival that is "just around the corner," but also demonstrate the continued positioning of Tizimín as a tourist destination in the municipality and its surrounding areas.
According to figures from the Municipal Tourism Department and the National Chamber of Commerce , the influx in both the city and the port of El Cuyo registered hotel occupancy between 80 and 90 percent, with significant economic benefits for businesses, restaurants, and service providers.
According to the municipal Tourism Department, one of the events that contributed the most during the last holiday season was the “El Cuyo Beach 2025” festival , in its eighth edition, as it attracted just over 20,000 visitors, since the musical lineup offered varied genres such as rock, cumbia, DJs, bands and comedy shows , in addition to innovative activities such as the exathlon and the “Color Run” race , which brought together 126 participants.
Gabriel Aguiñaga Medina , Director of Tourism Development for the City Council , points out that the season was very fruitful , not only in the town, where the most visited spots were the zoo, the market and the church, but also in new attractions such as the Sodzil cenote, which became one of the most visited sites due to its proximity and beauty.
He then added that sports tournaments organized by the city council, such as the Peninsular Volleyball Cup, paved the way for sports tourism, achieving hotel occupancy rates of up to 95% and generating benefits for the restaurant and retail sectors.
"All of this translates into a spectacle for Tizimín families, a boost to sports, and a rebound in the economy, as the vast majority of businesses and service providers did well."
Ricardo Martín Segura, president of Canaco , indicates that the results show that Tizimín is on the right track, and that is why the opening of more restaurants and the construction of new rooms in hotels as well as lodging platforms are increasing.
In fact, he says this is a good indicator for improving the municipality's ability to receive visitors year-round.
"I think we achieved 70 to 80 percent growth this holiday season. Restaurant and hotel owners haven't complained. On the contrary, recent events, especially sporting events, are helping us, so I think we're not far from establishing ourselves as a permanent tourist center if we get organized," he says.
According to the Director of Public Services, Carlos Balderas Rosado , the number of visitors to the "La Reina" zoo on weekends during the holiday season was over 1,000, mainly on Saturdays and Sundays, and doubled during the last Peninsular Volleyball Cup.
