Vox's critical movement demands that Abascal "be held accountable" and "refound the party"

The critical movement within Vox has sent a letter this Tuesday to the president of the party, Santiago Abascal , to ask for a refoundation of the party and to demand accountability for decisions such as the integration into the European Patriots group of the Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán.
The members of the so-called Roundtable of the Vox Pro Refoundation Movement, almost a hundred members and former members from all over Spain, including more than twenty councillors and four regional deputies, have approved the so-called Barajas Declaration , in which they demand that Abascal "render accounts" of his political and economic management and ask that a refoundational2 congress of the party be convened "as soon as possible." In it, they warn of "the forced or enforced bleeding" of prominent members "at the national, regional and local level."
The letter was signed by, among others, the two representatives expelled from the Vox group in the Cortes of Castilla y León, Javier Teira and Ana Rosa Hernando, the party's spokesperson in the Palencia City Council, Sonia Laland, and the deputy of the Balearic Parliament, Idoia Ribas Marino.
Among the points they are asking for is the " demand for responsibility from Santiago Abascal as president of Vox , as well as from the National Executive Committee appointed by him, regarding their poor organizational management , the decisions taken to break up the autonomous governments, the international positioning of Patriots and bad economic practices". In addition, they want the refoundation of Vox , "prior to opening up for the return of all those purged, repressed and those who abandoned it in silence", and the calling of a congress to approve "new democratic statutes".
"We trust that we will have a response, but if not, and since the matter is important enough not to be perpetuated over time, after 10 days we would interpret the tacit response as a negative one. From various places in Spain, on February 25, 2025," concludes the note, in which they ask Abascal for " a response in view of a possible meeting ."
The letter comes after the signatories met on Saturday in Madrid to demand, precisely, a refoundation of the party, which they see as having become a "chiringuito" (a kind of party bar) where they also set themselves up as true "patriots" who "face the tyranny" of their leader. It was at this conclave that the so-called Barajas Declaration was created.
