A few days ago, the Aalborg Zoo , located in northern Denmark, posted a particular request on social media that immediately sparked outrage in the community.

According to the establishment's Instagram account, those who are no longer able to care for certain animals or pets can come to their facilities to euthanize them and use them as food for the predators they care for there.

The reason behind the strange request is that the zoo is trying to implement a "more natural" diet for tigers, lions, and other animals, with the goal of fostering a routine similar to what they would find in a normal environment.

However, what sparked the most outrage among the Danish community was the clarification made by staff on digital platforms, where they indicated that it didn't matter if the pet was healthy, since if the caretaker accepted that they couldn't care for it , they would perform "humane euthanasia."

For its part, the establishment's specialized team issued a statement explaining that this practice would prevent waste and guarantee the nutrition of certain carnivorous animals.

In this regard, they indicated that those interested could donate chickens, rabbits, and guinea pigs, which are essential parts of the diet of some of the animals at the zoo.

On their website, the staff emphasized their commitment to preserving the natural food chain of the species, while maintaining their integrity as professionals at the center.

Accordingly, they assured that in order to efficiently complete the process, donors will be able to receive certain tax benefits , so only fewer than four animals are permitted to be delivered at a time.

According to the zoo, citizens who choose to donate their pets will be able to see the equivalent value of the animal they sacrifice reflected in a tax discount.

Despite the significant discontent generated by the publication on digital platforms, the site's deputy director, Pia Nielsen, told international media outlets that such initiatives are common in Denmark.
