Rosana Torres, winner of the National Cultural Journalism Award

Rosana Torres, winner of the National Cultural Journalism Award

Rosana Torres Reinés (Catarroja, 1953) has been awarded the National Prize for Cultural Journalism, granted by the Ministry of Culture and endowed with 30,000 euros, “for the excellence of a career as an independent cultural journalist and critic and for possessing a proverbial nose with which she anticipates the best scoop,” according to the jury, who also noted that “with a casual and ironic language and an approach to reporting that is always dignified, humane, and profound, Rosana Torres has managed to bring cultural content, especially the performing arts, to a wide audience without losing rigor or quality. Her honesty, strong social commitment, and the professional responsibility with which she approaches each project make Torres a reference for several generations of professionals.”

Rosana Torres began her career during the transition, first in the magazine La Guía del Ocio , from 1977, where she wrote about children's and young adult literature and theatre, and the following year she went to work for the newspaper El País , first specialising in children's literature (in 1980 she received the National Literature Award for her work as a critic) and later in the performing arts.

At the same time, between 1980 and 1983 she hosted the children's theatre programme El carro de la farsa –of which she was also assistant director and scriptwriter– on Televisión Española, a channel on which she also presented Taller de teatro and Candilejas , and in 1990 she presented A la calle on Telemadrid, which, in addition to theatre, reported on current cinema and culture. Among other awards, in 1995 she received the Caché award for best journalist of the year, in 2012 the International Paco Rabal Award for cultural journalism and in 2022 the gold medal for Merit in the Fine Arts, awarded by the Council of Ministers.
