Small Format Art, a growing fair in search of new collectors

As part of the busy calendar of artistic activities, the fourth edition of the Arte Pequeño Formato fair, with free admission, unfolds from June 27th to 29th. It has expanded and moved from an artist's studio in Parque Lezama to the Museum of Architecture and Design (MARQ) . This expanded fair brings together 15 galleries from across the country and features Renata Schussheim as guest of honor, with the challenge of bringing art closer to new audiences who can acquire original works.
"We grew from something more homey and artisanal to a museum, it's a more ambitious project in scale, because we went from 6 to 15 spaces, with everything that entails," Mariela Ivanier , head of the VERBO agency, one of the event organizers along with Santiago Arce, architect Victoria Baeza (former director of MARQ) and Mariana Gallegos del Sant, all with the support of the Central Society of Architects, told Clarín.
The Small Format Art fair moves to the Museum of Architecture and Design (MARQ) for its fourth edition.
The fair will occupy the entire Retiro railway complex's famous water tower and the new adjacent building to house projects including Sasha D , Artify , Imaginario, and Biga . The ground floor of the tower will be occupied by renowned Argentine artist, set designer, designer, and illustrator Renata Schussheim, who will present approximately 12 historical works , including those from the Nadadoras (Swimmers) and Mujeres Chismosas (Gossiping Women) series, under the fair's conditions. This is not a guest installation: all works are for sale.
"The small format feels absolutely familiar to me, but it's also a way for me to reach an unusual buyer," says Ivanier, owner of the well-known Rivarola Collection , displayed in a stylish apartment that doubles as her home and office. "If people give themselves the opportunity to explore the art world, it's logical that they'll start collecting with a small piece and not a 2x2 meter piece; it's like taking the plunge little by little," she adds. She also claims that she has already purchased a work from the San Juan gallery Artify, a family project that occupies a magnificent 1980s house in the capital, featuring local artists such as Cimarrones.

Among the participating projects is the rising Biga, with works by Fabiana Barreda , who condenses art, home, architecture, and body with her famous fluorescent acrylic house, the airbrush paintings of Mariano Molina , the stage sets of Paula Otegui , the prints of Silvia Brewda, and the collages of Federico Kirschbaum. Also from Buenos Aires, Valk arrives with artists such as Ricardo Crespo and Valentina Grisnpan, among others.
The Córdoba-based Sasha D gallery presents works by Vanesa Amenábar, Leonardo Herrera, and Pablo Morgante. Imaginario gallery explores the possibilities of small formats as a way to foster experimentation , as well as democratize access to art and encourage the emergence of new collectors, with artists such as Mónica Caputo , Bruno Rodríguez Maraude, and Silvia Ventura.
Fino630, Ileana Hochman 's project that hosted the first three editions, will add her own work and that of Rita Simoni to the fourth edition.
+GalleryLabs presents a carefully curated collection of paintings, photographs, art on paper, and textiles, while 1/1 Art Box makes the small format into an intimate poetic .
