Edwin Palma would be the new Minister of Mines and Energy, replacing Andrés Camacho

After President Gustavo Petro accepted Andrés Camacho's resignation, the name that is most likely to be the new Minister of Mines and Energy is Edwin Palma.
Edwin Palma currently serves as an intervening agent for the company Air-e and has been a member of the board of directors of Ecopetrol since March 2024.
He also served as Deputy Minister of Labor Relations and Inspection at the Ministry of Labor until August 2024.
Before joining President Gustavo Petro's government, Edwin Palma worked for Ecopetrol for more than 20 years and held various positions within the union movement, including arbitrator in legal disputes for more than 10 years. He was president of the Unión Sindical Obrera (USO) between 2018 and 2021.

Edwin Palma is a specialist in Labor Law from the Universidad Libre de Colombia, a specialist in Constitutional Law and a Master in Labor Law from the Universidad Externado de Colombia.
He has conducted studies for Latin American Experts in Labor Relations at the University of Castilla–La Mancha, Spain. He has also been a university professor and columnist.
His arrival at the Ministry of Mines and Energy would follow the formal resignation that Andrés Camacho submitted on February 9 and which was accepted by President Gustavo Petro as part of the changes he is making in his cabinet.

“I appreciate your trust, your aggressiveness in promoting the energy transition and your firmness in opening the way for a new generation of progressives,” said Andrés Camacho through his X account.
He also highlighted that during his administration, "challenges such as the El Niño phenomenon were overcome, we made progress on challenges such as transforming the energy matrix in our 6GW plan and we made a major commitment to bringing energy democracy through energy communities and Colombia Solar."
