Ricardo de Querol, new director of Cinco Días

Ricardo de Querol has been appointed editor of CincoDías and deputy editor of the Economics section of El País. The change follows a reorganization of the team under El País's new editor, Jan Martínez Ahrens , and aims to further strengthen the largest economic news offering in Spain and the Americas.
Querol was previously deputy editor of the print edition of El País, a position he held since 2019. He will return to the helm of Spain's leading financial daily, a position he held from 2016 to 2018.
Ricardo de Querol Alcaraz (Madrid, 56) holds a degree in Information Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid. He began his career in 1988 reporting on local news for the newspaper Ya and worked for over ten years for Diario 16, where he was head of the Economy and National sections. In 1997 and 1998, he was editor of the newspaper Tribuna de Salamanca, and then rejoined Diario 16 as editor-in-chief and, later, managing editor.
In 2002, he joined CincoDías , where he served as editor-in-chief and deputy editor. In 2006, he joined El País, where he served as editor-in-chief of the Society section, the Digital Roundtable, and the cultural supplement Babelia.
During his previous stint as director of CincoDías , he carried out a profound overhaul of the newspaper's design and content and was responsible for the launch of El País Retina, a digital space and, at the time, a monthly magazine for El País on digital transformation.
In January 2019, he was appointed deputy editor of El País, in charge of the print edition. He has also been a columnist for the newspaper, a cultural critic, and the author of the essay "The Great Fragmentation" (Arpa).
The reorganization of El País's management includes the appointment of Miguel Jiménez as the newspaper's new deputy editor. Jiménez previously held this position, as well as the top economics editor at El País and the editor of CincoDías .
