It's worth remembering that Tuxpan has experienced a wave of violence in recent months. In recent days, organized crime posted threatening messages on the municipality's tourist signs, and last June, Antonio Huesca Figueroa, director of the Tuxpan prison, was murdered after allegedly being threatened by organized crime.
Added to this is the murder of five businessmen so far this year. This municipality in northern Veracruz maintains a high rate of violence due to clashes between criminal groups vying for control of the region, particularly between a splinter group of the Gulf Cartel—known as the "Shadow Group"—and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
