The captain of the yacht that ran over a young man fishing in Mallorca denies having been drinking

The captain of the powerful yacht that ran over a young man who was fishing at night in a small boat at the gate of Cala Bona (Mallorca) has denied before the judge that he had been drinking and points out that at no time did he notice the accident so they did not stop to help the victims. The German citizen David Viehof was driving a yacht owned by his father last August and, at night leaving the port, he ran over the boat in which the 20-year-old Guillem Comamala and his uncle were fishing. The boy died and a judge must now decide what happened that night.
The Guardia Civil initially suggested that the yacht's captain had consumed alcoholic beverages, as there are images from the day after the accident in which the yacht's crew can be seen cleaning the boat and removing bottles from the vessel. The man is accused of negligent homicide and failure to provide assistance. Viehof explained that he was going at around 22 knots and denies that he was sailing recklessly, as was also initially suggested during the investigation. In fact, he claims that they did not even notice the accident.

Viehof's defence claims that the crew of several boats claimed they saw the yacht passing at a distance of about 400 metres from where most of the boats were fishing. He insists that it was not carrying any light that could give a signal of its whereabouts in the middle of the night, even though it is required.
Viehof is an airline pilot, owner of an aviation charter company and member of a wealthy family from Germany. His father, Klaus Viehof, is a tycoon with real estate and construction businesses on the east coast of Mallorca, who created the German chain of Alkauf drugstores and perfumeries. He increased his fortune after selling these establishments in a multi-million-dollar transaction.
The young man's death caused consternation and protests in the municipalityThe death caused great consternation in the municipality of Son Servera and its inhabitants gathered to protest against the delay in taking a statement from the main suspect despite the evidence, but the Civil Guard maintained at all times that the man had been located and they never feared that he might flee. The family collaborated to try to clarify the events, according to the agents who investigated the case.
