A Diada to celebrate on the streets: these are the events for September 11th

If the weather is good, as expected, Catalans will be able to enjoy the extensive agenda of activities organized by institutions and organizations to celebrate this September 11th. The program includes traditional events, such as the floral offerings at the Rafael Casanova monument in Barcelona or at the tomb in Sant Boi, the independence demonstration—held this year in three cities—and open days (see schedules) offered by institutions and museums. There are also firsts, such as the raising of a large Spanish flag outside the Parliament, and reruns, such as the reception for institutions and civil society at the Catalan Parliament, or the institutional event of the Catalan government, this year at the National Museum of Catalonia. And, of course, throughout Catalonia there will be sardanas, human towers, and folklore, such as the Ball de l'Àliga.
September 10Raising the flag
This afternoon, the Parliament will open the institutional events for the Diada with the solemn raising of a large (6 x 9 meters) Senyera flag on a 25-meter-high flagpole installed outside the Chamber. The ceremony will be presided over by the Presidents of the Government, Salvador Illa, and of the Parliament, Josep Rull, and the Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni. The honor guard of the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan Mossos d'Esquadra) and the Guardia Urbana (Urban Police) will participate. The celebration is inspired by the events established by President Pasqual Maragall in 2004, in which the raising of the flag played a central role. The Senyera will remain flown throughout the year.
