Axel Kicillof accused Javier Milei of sentencing Cristina Kirchner and spoke of "blatant intervention."

Buenos Aires Governor Axel Kicillof blamed President Javier Milei forCristina Kirchner's conviction and denounced a blatant intervention in the judiciary . In a televised statement, he asserted that the country "is experiencing a climate of persecution and hatred," and announced that he will convene a Peronist political committee to create a joint list for the upcoming elections.
Kicillof harshly criticized the Supreme Court ruling that upheld the former president's conviction. "Cristina is innocent, convicted anyway. Chronicle of a sentence foretold," he said. He added: "This is a country where journalism, artists, and anyone who thinks differently are attacked. This is what happens in Milei's Argentina ."
According to the provincial leader, the ruling party not only influenced the judiciary but also "sent people to the courts to see if they would jail her sooner or later." For Kicillof, this confirms the existence of manipulation by the executive branch: "There was blatant intervention."
The governor also praised the June 18th demonstration in support of Cristina. “It was a peaceful march, without Bullrich or her provocative apparatus. Cristina's reaction was exemplary. We must put a stop to Milei ,” he emphasized.
Axel Kicillof confirmed that he will convene a Peronist panel to create a joint list for the upcoming elections. "I'm calling for a panel to begin discussing how to create a list. It's a commitment; we made it public," he said.
He acknowledged that there are internal differences, but called for prioritizing the context. "This situation forces us to build a common strategy, respectful of each other's representations, but with the clear objective of stopping Milei ," he said.
He announced that the call will be formalized in the coming days. "It's imminent. There's a desire to move forward with a unified list, and we also discussed this with Cristina," he added.
Kicillof warned that Peronism hasn't won a midterm election in the province of Buenos Aires in two decades. "They've always been complicated elections. To face Cristina's conviction, we have to beat Milei," he stated.
He also confirmed that the provincial elections will continue to be held separately from the national elections. He assured that this decision has already been made by his administration.
Asked about the possibility of a pardon, he avoided confirmation, but maintained that Cristina Kirchner 's figure remains relevant. "She will occupy the position she deems most appropriate. She demonstrated this in a packed arena. Her decision will pave the way for the advance of the Millennium movement," he concluded.
