Lena Yanina Estrada will be the new Minister of Environment; her resume is published

The ministerial cabinet of the Government of Gustavo Petro continues to have new changes, this time with the arrival of Lena Yanina Estrada as the new Minister of Environment, replacing Susana Muhamad , outgoing president of COP16, who presented her irrevocable resignation from the position to the head of State.
This was confirmed by the Casa de Nariño website, where the resume of the political scientist of indigenous descent from the Amazon, Lena Yanina Estrada Asito, who will occupy the position in charge of the portfolio, was released on Wednesday, February 26.

The news comes a day after the publication of the resumes of former Superintendent of Public Services Patricia Duque, the new Minister of Sports, and Pedro Sánchez, the general in the process of retirement who will lead Colombia's Defense portfolio.
According to the report, Estrada is a political scientist from the National University of Colombia and has been an internationally renowned researcher at institutions such as the UNESCO Chair in Sustainability and the HIAMPOL (History, Environment and Politics) research group at the National University. In addition to this, she has a master's degree and a doctorate in Sustainability from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
Her appointment comes more than three weeks after the confirmation of Susana Muhamad's departure as minister due to the internal crisis generated by the televised broadcast of the cabinet meeting. The official, at the time, made public the letter she sent to President Gustavo Petro in which she notified him of her decision to leave office on February 8.
In the letter, Muhamad reiterated his gratitude to the President of the Republic for his trust and for entrusting him with the Ministry of the Environment.

"During these years of building progressivism in Colombia, under his leadership we learned the value of autonomy in political decision-making, the courage required for truth, the exercise of politics based on conviction and guided by principles, the audacity to dare to materialize radical transformations and utopias, despite the sacrifice that this may entail," wrote Muhamad.
Similarly, in the letter Muhamad suggested that his resignation take effect from March 3 in order to conclude the work of COP16, which is scheduled to end between February 25 and 28. However, the new resignation comes days earlier than expected.
The words of the new Minister of the Environment Through her official X account, the new official spoke about the appointment and officially confirmed it. In a publication, in which she named President Petro, she detailed that she is coming to the Ministry and what her purposes are in it:
