Nicolás Maduro receives Miguel Mejía in Caracas

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro welcomed Miguel Mejía , Secretary General of the United Left Movement (MIU) of the Dominican Republic, to the Miraflores Palace in a meeting in which the two highlighted the historical ties between the two countries.
During the meeting, Mejía gave the blessing of the Virgin of Altagracia , patron saint of the Dominican people, as a symbol of brotherhood between the two Caribbean nations .
Maduro described the gesture as an act of spiritual and cultural unity. "Welcome to this, your homeland. Together, the peoples of the Caribbean reaffirm our commitment to genuine and lasting peace," the Venezuelan president said.
In the video released on social media about the visit, Maduro hailed Mejía as "the Miguelón of the Dominican Republic for the world" and emphasized that the meeting focused on messages of peace and sovereignty .
The president held a book on Ho Chi Minh's military thought, while emphasizing that the meeting was part of a shared effort to promote peace.
"I come with a message from the Vietnamese , and I come to seek peace. A peace based on sovereignty , with independence, not the peace of the colonies, nor of colonial administrators," Mejía added.
Maduro insisted that the doors of Miraflores are open to the Dominican leader .
"Here we are, still in battle . Always welcome, this is your home ," he said before sitting down to chat with his guest.
The exchange concluded with a reference to the Virgin of Altagracia . "The patron saint of the Dominican people, of the seas, and of sailors," Maduro recalled, expressing his gratitude for the blessing and considering it a gesture of brotherhood among peoples who share the history of the Caribbean.
