The wife of the Prime Minister sits again before Judge Peinado.

Begoña Gómez, wife of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, faces for the fourth time today the judge investigating her, Juan Carlos Peinado, over the master's degree she directed at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), which has led to a sort of massive case in which she is being prosecuted for the alleged commission of five crimes.
On this occasion, the judge of Madrid's Investigative Court No. 41 will question him about the alleged commission of a crime of embezzlement of public funds for hiring a personal advisor through the Office of the Prime Minister.
Gómez's defense team argued before the judge that this role of advisor to the wife of a president has occurred on previous occasions, as was the case with the wife of his predecessor, Mariano Rajoy. However, Peinado argues that the advisor's role exceeded her duties and involved work unrelated to her role as the wife of the president. As part of this separate case, the investigating judge has requested that the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard analyze all emails received and sent by Gómez since 2018, the date Cristina Álvarez was hired.
Gómez faces the judge investigating him, Juan Carlos Peinado, for the fourth time today.Along with Gómez, the advisor also testified today as a suspect. In an appeal, the defense team for Pedro Sánchez's wife requested the suspension of the statement and the analysis of the emails due to the excessive measures taken. They also noted that Álvarez's response to certain emails to Gómez outside of her working hours, as Peinado criticized in one of his rulings, cannot be considered misappropriation of funds.
Following this summons, the Prime Minister gave two interviews last week in which he accused certain judges of engaging in politics. This statement prompted a response from judicial associations and even from the President of the Supreme Court, Isabel Perelló, who warned that "the persistent criticisms of the judiciary coming from the public authorities are completely inappropriate and unacceptable."
