Pilar López joins Vodafone Group as a finance minister

British telecommunications operator Vodafone announced this Thursday the appointment of Spanish executive Pilar López as Chief Financial Officer designate, reporting to the group's CEO, Italian Margherita Della Valle , effective October 1st. However, the Spanish woman's formal appointment as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director of Vodafone's Board of Directors will begin on December 1st, 2025, following the departure of Luka Mucic on November 30th.
Pilar López will thus take over from Luka Mucic , who announced his intention to leave Vodafone last May. Following her appointment as CFO designate, the Spaniard will begin a period of succession from Mucic.
Pilar López will join Vodafone from Microsoft , where she held various senior management positions for 10 years, including COO for Western Europe, Country General Manager for Spain, and most recently, Head of Microsoft's collaboration with the London Stock Exchange Group.
Vodafone CEO Margherita Della Valle has highlighted López's "deep knowledge" of the telecommunications and technology sectors, having held various leadership positions internationally.
For her part, the Spanish woman expressed her satisfaction at joining Vodafone "at such an important moment in the group's transformation."
As Vodafone's chief financial officer, Pilar López will receive a base salary of £725,000 (€847,503), as well as the right to a bonus of up to 200% of base salary and a long-term incentive of up to 450% of base salary, in addition to a 10% pension supplement.
Prior to joining Microsoft in 2015, Pilar López worked for 16 years at Telefónica , holding various financial and senior management positions, including CFO of Telefónica Europe, CFO of O2, Global Head of Simplification, Head of Strategy and Business Development in Spain, and member of the Board of Directors of Telefónica Germany.
Pilar López began her career at JP Morgan and is currently a non-executive director of Inditex , having previously served as a non-executive director of Ferguson.
Last May, Luka Mucic announced his intention to leave his position as CFO of Vodafone Group, which he had held since 2023, to become CEO of the German real estate company Vonovia, listed on the Dax index of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
