Science: Chinese computer scientists develop a computer that emulates a monkey's brain.

A team of Chinese computer scientists unveiled a new generation of computers on Saturday capable of emulating the brain function of a macaque monkey, local media reported. The device, nicknamed "Darwin Monkey ," was developed by researchers at Zhejiang University in the east and supports the leading artificial intelligence model DeepSeek to perform tasks such as logical reasoning, content generation, and mathematical problem-solving, according to the official Xinhua news agency.

The computer features 960 Darwin 3 chips, the third generation of neural processing units independently implemented by the aforementioned university. According to the aforementioned media, it is the first neural processing unit that combines advanced thinking capabilities with vision, hearing, language, and learning functions.
Furthermore, "Darwin Monkey" has shown its ability to preliminarily mimic other animal brains of different neuronal sizes, including mice and zebrafish, which, according to the team behind it, opens up new avenues for brain science research. According to data presented last July at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC), China has launched more than 1,500 large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) models to date, the largest number in the world, consolidating its position as a powerhouse in the sector.
This sector expansion is part of the global struggle for technological leadership, which has led the Asian giant to propose an action plan for international AI governance based on cooperation and openness, in contrast to the United States' strategy focused on reducing regulations and defending its own technological value model.
