The foldable iPhone is closer than we think: it's entering testing and has a possible release date.

Apple has a lot of unfinished business when it comes to foldable phones. It's been rumored for years that Tim Cook's company is working on such a phone , but as time goes on, we haven't received any official announcement from Cupertino. However, this seems to be about to change, as a new report suggests the foldable iPhone will arrive next year because it has entered the testing phase .

GSMArena.com reports that, according to supply chain sources, "Apple already has a working prototype of its first foldable phone." This means the smartphone will enter the Engineering Verification Test (EVT) phase if all goes according to plan, potentially launching alongside the iPhone 18 in fall 2026 .

On the other hand, the report also reveals that Apple has paused development of its foldable iPad due to manufacturing issues, increased production costs, and weak demand.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed via his account on the social network X (formerly Twitter) that the iPhone will have a book-type design with a 7.8-inch inner screen and a 5.5-inch outer screen, it will have a rear camera with a dual lens , it will have a stainless steel hinge with a titanium alloy with a thickness of about 9.5 millimeters when folded and between 4.5 and 4.8 millimeters when open, it will offer Apple Intelligence functions and will add high-density battery cells. In addition, as a great novelty, the screen will be manufactured by the Samsung Display division .

For now, all of these aforementioned features are rumors, and Apple has yet to confirm anything, so we'll have to wait until next year to find out if the Cupertino company will actually fulfill its goal of having its own foldable phone.

How much will the foldable iPhone cost?

Apple estimates a production run of between 15 and 20 million of its foldable iPhone, which would arrive en masse in the second half of 2026, and they even assure that they could ship several million units per year, despite the fact that the device would be very expensive.
