The Mexico City government is considering building a collector and pumping plant at La Conchita in Tláhuac.

MEXICO CITY (apro).- The Mexico City government is working on an infrastructure analysis and diagnosis to build a collector and pumping plant in the La Conchita neighborhood of the Tláhuac borough, where irregular settlements caused the Luis Delgado canal to overflow on the afternoon of July 28.
At a press conference, Mayor Clara Brugada stated that 19 homes were affected by the flooding, which will be addressed and receive support from the authorities. She did not address the actions her administration will or will not take to recover or regularize the occupied spaces.
"They're everywhere," he stated, acknowledging that the registration of irregular settlements has significantly increased in the municipality governed by the ruling party mayor, Berenice Hernández.
The Morena party member also did not clarify whether she will take action to clear these properties in order to restore the flow of the Luis Delgado Canal, as it has been affected by the irregular settlements located right where it empties, at the connection with the Chalco Canal. Therefore, the overflow is directly related to this phenomenon of illegal occupation.
He only mentioned that the Secretariat for Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRyPC) will provide assistance to assess the risks faced by the residents of these settlements: "For those at risk, action will be taken to ensure they are free from danger. We know these are irregular settlements, but that doesn't mean people are left at risk, so action will be taken."
Then, he gave the floor to José Mario Esparza, Secretary of Water, who specified that since the Luis Delgado canal overflowed, the Secretariat of Integrated Water Management (Seguiagua) activated the Tlaloque operation in the area, where pumping equipment was presented: “It was already flooded, all the water has already been removed from the streets, yesterday also all night it was cleaned with hydropneumatics and right now we are removing the water from the canal that has already become a glass, since it no longer has flow it is clogged, so we are lowering the levels so that when it rains again it does not overflow, that will be immediate.”
Regarding long-term actions, he added that they are conducting a diagnostic and analysis of infrastructure alternatives to build a collector and pumping plant, using a pressurized line capable of pumping the water that accumulates in this canal.
