Price hikes are causing British tourists to start swapping Morocco for Spain: flights have doubled.

Price hikes are causing British tourists to start swapping Morocco for Spain: flights have doubled.

Spain and Portugal are two of the top tourist destinations for Britons. But rising prices in these countries are causing other destinations to capture this powerful market.

This is what the Daily Mail reported this Saturday in a report, which indicates that North African countries such as Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt are growing much faster as tourist destinations compared to other European countries such as Spain, Portugal, and Italy.

Figures show that 19,847 flights are expected to depart from UK airports on routes to North Africa this year, more than double the 8,653 flights to these destinations in 2019.

Meanwhile, flights to Spain and Portugal from the UK are estimated to increase by only 10% and 9% respectively over the same period.

The Daily Mail cites data from travel company TUI indicating that bookings by British customers purchasing flights or package holidays for summer vacations in Egypt are 30% higher compared to last year.

In addition, the online accommodation platform Booking.com recorded a 68% increase in searches for vacations in Tunisia from January to May of this year, compared to the same period in 2024. Meanwhile, Egypt and Morocco saw increases of 64% and 39%, respectively.
