"Metropolis Summer District": 150 organizations offer free summer activities
As part of the "Métropole quartier d'été" (Summer Metropolis), free activities for residents of working-class neighborhoods are being offered from June 23 to August 31 in the Lyon metropolitan area.
For the fifth consecutive summer, the Lyon Metropolis is offering residents of working-class neighborhoods the opportunity to participate in sports, cultural, and leisure activities. This is an opportunity for those unable to go on vacation to benefit from free activities, offered from June 23 to August 31: "According to the Inequality Observatory, nearly five million children do not go on vacation in France, often for financial reasons. The Lyon Metropolis is tackling this issue head-on, through the Métropole Quartiers d'été program that we launched in 2020 for working-class neighborhoods," says Bruno Bernard, President of the Metropolis.
Among the 150 structures chosen to host the "Métropole Quartier d'été" is the large Miribel-Jonage park. On the program at Fontanil Beach: drowning prevention workshops, first aid sessions, shows, and even water sports workshops.
To create this program, the Lyon Metropolitan Area is launching a call for proposals from organizations located in the neighborhoods. To participate, these organizations must offer diverse, free activities that also serve a social and educational role, such as offering activities to young people who have dropped out of school or helping people experiencing social isolation.
In total, the community is dedicating €840,000 to 150 organizations located near residents. These organizations will be responsible for organizing activities and supervising children.
