1,400 circles drawn at the bottom of the Mediterranean: diver Laurent Ballesta has solved the mystery
The documentary diver and his team have revealed the origin of 1,400 rings drawn at the bottom of the Mediterranean, off the coast of Cap Corse. They made a film about it, broadcast on Arte this Saturday, May 3. Fascinating.
By Pauline ConradssonIt all started with a sonar observation in 2011. Some 1,417 regularly shaped circles, about twenty kilometers from Cap Corse, north of the Isle of Beauty, were drawn on the seabed, at a depth of 120 meters. Where did they come from? How did they get there?
Fifteen years and several dives later, the team of Laurent Ballesta, a diver and biologist known for his explorations of the seabed in extreme conditions, has succeeded in shedding light on the origin of these circular shapes, each about twenty meters in diameter. This expedition is recounted in a documentary, "Cap Corse, the Mystery of the Rings," broadcast this Saturday, May 3 on Arte.
