At the Avignon Festival, Amrita Hepi and Némo Flouret, two young choreographers driven by urgency

First time in Avignon for two young choreographers. The Australian Amrita Hepi (born in 1989) presents, around the notion of beginning, her solo Rinse , created in 2020, the foundation of her career which already includes around ten pieces and installations. The Frenchman Némo Flouret (born in 1995), more noted, notably for his collaboration with Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker in Forêt (2022) , at the Louvre Museum in Paris, deploys an ambitious form, with eleven performers, entitled Derniers feux .
In the Mistral High School Gymnasium, a whole history of dance bubbles within Amrita Hepi's vibrant body. And it bubbles so much that the pressure cooker's valve had to be removed to release the pressure. This self-cleaning enterprise, between recognizing what constitutes a person and the need to fine-tune to better invent oneself, gives the flavor to this solo, co-written with Mish Grigor, which bears its name well: Rinse .
Urgency also whips up Derniers feux , by Némo Flouret, who also performs in his show. On the stage of the courtyard of the Saint-Joseph high school, scaffolding is erected. A roaring trumpet solo introduces the piece while a squad of dancers soon throws themselves into an improbable upheaval that will transform the stage, with the help of long wooden poles and cardboard, into a theatrical construction site.
