For its low-cost concerts designed to attract a new audience, the Philharmonie offered a summit.

The Prem's? Yes, it's a preferential rate offered by the SNCF. But not only that. Since this fall, it's a new formula offered by the Philharmonie de Paris to attract a different audience to classical concerts. It's a play on words on " Proms ," those summer concerts given at London's Royal Albert Hall, where the stalls are removed to allow a large audience to attend standing, for a modest price.

The idea of offering a French version for a week stems from an observation: even with prestigious performers, early September concerts are rarely full. And there were some prestigious performers at the opening of the season. From the first concert at the Leipzig Gewandhaus under the direction of Andris Nelsons , we knew we had it made. This motley crowd, where 600 listeners under 28 had paid 15 euros, proved to be the best of audiences: attentive and focused during, not stingy with their enthusiasm afterward.
