Breitling Superocean, surf spirit for summer
Breitling took advantage of the Wheels and Waves surf and motorcycle festival in Biarritz to present the new products in its Superocean collection.
Sand, a book, watches. Even though Brian Wilson, the soul of the Beach Boys, has just passed away, the surfing spirit is immortal. It's an eternal renewal, like the waves, and like watchmaking. In addition to publishing The Breitling Book of Surfing , which covers surf culture across six continents, from the Irish coast to the legendary waves of Oahu, Hawaii, the Swiss brand is unveiling new colorful editions with rainbow dials of its Superocean Automatic, in 42 (€5,350) and 36 mm (€5,450) versions.
“With summer approaching, our new colorful Superocean models are your perfect companions for surfing the waves or relaxing at a beach dinner,” explains Breitling CEO Georges Kern. These watches draw inspiration from the legendary SuperOcean Slow Motion of the 1960s and 1970s, which simplified the dive watch by keeping only the essential elements. Among them, a bold, contrasting minute scale on the dial ring, as well as broad luminescent indexes and paddle hands, provide improved underwater legibility. Here, the seconds hand is replaced by an innovative minute-based chronograph that takes one hour to complete a rotation. Today’s Superocean retains this practicality while reinstating the seconds hand and adding modern functions.
These models, featuring rainbow dials, indexes, and hour hands coated in a brilliant gradient of Super-LumiNova hues (yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet, red, and orange), come in four sparkling 42mm stainless steel versions, accompanied by turquoise, aquamarine, orange, and yellow rubber straps. In addition, a more elegant 36mm white version is available with a stainless steel and 18k red gold case. The 44mm turquoise dial model continues the collection's colorful theme this summer. Previously offered on a black strap, it now features a tone-on-tone turquoise rubber strap that provides a striking contrast with its black ceramic inset bezel.
Added to this is an impressive Superocean Automatic 46 Super Diver (€6,600) in ultralight titanium, water-resistant to 1,000 meters, with discreet green or camouflage black dials accompanied by matching ceramic inlays. Their bidirectional rotating bezel with patented locking prevents accidental rotation. Its soft iron inner case has been specially designed to protect it from the effects of magnetic fields.
