This new chapter in the adventures of the American "super-soldier", now played by Anthony Mackie - and with Harrison Ford in the role of the President of the United States - has generated $141 million domestically and $289.4 million internationally so far. Weakened by many negative reviews, the blockbuster is experiencing a more significant drop than the previous films in the Captain America franchise.

“This is the new trend for Marvel movies,” Comscore senior analyst Paul Dergarabedian told Variety . “There’s no denying that these movies have appeal, and Captain America: Brave New World is likely to be a box office triumph. But a 68% second-week drop reflects less enthusiasm than you’d expect from Marvel.”

The film beats out horror comedy The Monkey , which grossed $14.2 million in its opening weekend from 3,200 North American theaters. Theo James, Rohan Campbell and Elijah Wood star in the demonic monkey story, based on a Stephen King short story. It's Neon's second-best debut, after Longlegs in July 2024 , which grossed $22.4 million.

Third place goes to Paddington in Peru with $6.5 million in revenue from 3,890 theaters in its second weekend, down 49% from its opening weekend. The animated film Dog Man , produced by DreamWorks and Universal, takes fourth place with $5.9 million, ahead of the Chinese animated film Ne Zha 2 , a blockbuster based on a traditional legend with its $3 million in revenue.

The rest of the top 10:

6. Heart Eyes ($2.8 million)

7. The Unbreakable Boy ($2.5 million)

8. Mufasa: The Lion King ($2.5 million)

9. One of Them Days ($1.4 million)

10. Back to Business (Love Hurts) ($1.1 million)
