“This is the new trend for Marvel movies,” Comscore senior analyst Paul Dergarabedian told Variety . “There’s no denying that these movies have appeal, and Captain America: Brave New World is likely to be a box office triumph. But a 68% second-week drop reflects less enthusiasm than you’d expect from Marvel.”
The film beats out horror comedy The Monkey , which grossed $14.2 million in its opening weekend from 3,200 North American theaters. Theo James, Rohan Campbell and Elijah Wood star in the demonic monkey story, based on a Stephen King short story. It's Neon's second-best debut, after Longlegs in July 2024 , which grossed $22.4 million.
Third place goes to Paddington in Peru with $6.5 million in revenue from 3,890 theaters in its second weekend, down 49% from its opening weekend. The animated film Dog Man , produced by DreamWorks and Universal, takes fourth place with $5.9 million, ahead of the Chinese animated film Ne Zha 2 , a blockbuster based on a traditional legend with its $3 million in revenue.
