Convicted of transporting people for prostitution, P. Diddy will be sentenced on October 3

Convicted of transporting people for prostitution, P. Diddy will be sentenced on October 3

Hip-hop mogul P. Diddy, acquitted last week of sex trafficking but convicted of transporting people for prostitution after a high-profile trial in New York, will be sentenced on October 3, the parties agreed Tuesday.

Judge Arun Subramanian, who presided over the trial, proposed the date, which was formally accepted by both the prosecution and the defense of the famous rapper and producer, during a brief technical hearing this Tuesday in Manhattan federal court.

The sentence will be decided by the judge. It could be up to a theoretical maximum of ten years in prison for each of the two counts of transporting a person for the purpose of prostitution for which Sean Combs, his real name, was convicted.

Last Wednesday, after two days of deliberations, the 12 jurors found the 55-year-old rapper guilty of these criminal charges, but acquitted him of the most serious charges in the trial: sex trafficking of two of his former partners, and conspiracy to commit a crime, which carries a potential life sentence. The verdict came after nearly seven weeks of intense, sometimes harrowing testimony from his accusers.

Diddy was accused of forcing women—including his girlfriend from 2007 to 2018, singer Cassie , and a more recent ex-girlfriend who testified under the pseudonym "Jane"—to engage in sex marathons with male prostitutes while he masturbated or filmed. He also accused Diddy of setting up a criminal network, which he led, to organize these marathons, known as "freak-offs." But the verdict was seen as a victory for the defense.

Prosecutors wrote in court documents that, based on federal guidelines, a sentence of 51 to 63 months would potentially be appropriate for the transportation for prostitution charge, although this does not theoretically preclude them from seeking a longer sentence.

Diddy's lawyers are seeking a lighter sentence, ranging from 21 to 27 months. Combs has been incarcerated in a Brooklyn jail since September 2024, and all time he has already served will be factored into his final sentence.
