Gaza's Civil Defense reported the death of 20 people in the accident of a food truck that overturned into a crowd on Tuesday night.
"The truck overturned while hundreds of civilians were waiting for food aid in the Nuseirat area in the central Gaza Strip," said Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Bassal. "The truck had been forced by the Israeli army to take dangerous roads, which had previously been bombed" and were in poor condition.
"Despite the recent limited authorization of a few aid trucks, the occupier (editor's note: Israel) is deliberately obstructing the safe passage and distribution of this aid. It is forcing drivers to take routes overloaded with starving civilians who have been waiting for weeks for basic necessities," the Hamas-led Gaza government accused in a statement Wednesday morning.
This "deliberate and criminal behavior often results in desperate crowds storming trucks and seizing their contents by force," the government explained, also reporting 20 civilians killed and dozens injured.
