He is one of the superstars of Arab rap. Since his debut, Egyptian Marwan Moussa has demonstrated boldness by blending traditional music with hip-hop, the dominant genre in the region. With "The Man Who Lost His Heart," written in the midst of grief and released on May 5, he reveals a more vulnerable side.

He is the third most-streamed rapper on platforms across the Middle East and North Africa region. And at 30, Marwan Moussa “is considered a pioneer in the region’s hip-hop scene,” notes GQ Middle East . The German-Egyptian rapper has redefined Egyptian rap, a genre that has dominated the region’s music scenes since the “Arab Spring.”

His latest album, released on May 5th, The Man Who Lost His Heart (spelled in Arabic in the original title), is proof of his virtuosity in pushing the boundaries of the genre to innovate. Written after the death of his mother in October 2023, and the start a few days later of the brutal war that Israel is waging against Gaza , two events that deeply affected him, it presents a new side of the artist.

“He opens up to the world through cinematic videos and productions with a very personal style, which describe isolation, chaos, separation, acceptance and strength,” the magazine describes.
