The ephemeris of July 8: 35 years ago, Germany won its third World Cup

On 8 July 1990, West Germany (FRG), under coach Franz Beckenbauer , won the FIFA World Cup for the third time. The victory was decided by a score of 1–0 against Argentina.
In this match, which took place at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Italy, it was German defender Andreas Brehme who gave his team the victory against Argentina. He scored a penalty in the 85th minute of the match.
Born on November 9, 1960 in Hamburg, Germany, Andreas Brehme was an international football player. He began his career at HSV Barmbek-Uhlenhorst, before signing in 1980 for FC Saarbrücken, then in 1981 for FC Kaiserslautern. He subsequently played for numerous clubs, including Bayern Munich (with whom he won the German Super Cup in 1987), Inter Milan (where he became champion in 1989), and Real Zaragoza. He also played for the national team, where he was capped 86 times between 1984 and 1994, and with whom he won the World Cup in 1990. It was in 1998 that he decided to end his professional career. Tragically, Andreas Brehme died on February 20, 2024, following a heart attack, at the age of 63 .
