The European House of Photography fires its director

It was with a very diplomatic press release that the Maison européenne de la photographie, a major photography institution in Paris, announced on Monday, September 8, the departure of its director, Simon Baker: "After seven years of intense and dynamic collaboration on the artistic level, the Maison européenne de la photographie [MEP] announces the end of the mandate of Simon Baker, its director. (…) The MEP and its board of directors wish him success in his continued professional career." But it is indeed a dismissal that ends the mandate of the Briton, who still represented the MEP at the Rencontres d'Arles this summer, where he had been in charge of an exhibition dedicated to the relationship of the couturier Yves Saint Laurent with photography. Contacted, Simon Baker did not respond to our requests.
Caroline Miller, general administrator of the MEP, does not give any explanation for this decision, but specifies that "the board of directors, which includes elected officials from the City of Paris, people connected to the world of photography and external people, unanimously took the decision to end this collaboration. After seven years, there was a desire to renew the management style."
